Top 10 Things I Don't Miss About Working

It's hard to believe that I had a life before I became a mother, but I did! I really did.

I worked in marketing in Corporate America for 12 years, which seems like eons ago now.

Some days I miss it and others, you couldn't pay enough to go back to work.

In no particular order, here are the Top 10 Things I DON'T Miss About Working:

1. The Attire. Coordinates, cardigans, suits, panty hose and shoes that hurt my feet. Daily.

2. The Meetings/Meetings About Meetings. Generating so many great ideas but having way to implement them due to lack of interest, resources and/or budget, so let's schedule another meeting! Hours upon hours of time I'll never get back. Sigh.

3. Corporate-isms. Annoying phrases such as: think tank, ROI, the bottom line and synergy come to mind.

4. The commute. No matter how great the stereo system is in your car, sitting in traffic is the worst time-sucker EVER! Way worse than Twitter.

5. Deadlines. Marketing is a very deadline driven and there are a lot of moving parts and pieces. Herding them all together due to some of the slackers I worked with was no fun.

6. Corporate Politics. The paperwork, policies and hoops you have to jump through - essentially all the crap that gets in the way of being able to do your job.

7. Voice Mail. Creating your own greeting, remembering to change it when you're out of the office, leaving voice mails for others and collecting your own. I cursed that little blinking red light every day.

8. Water Cooler Talk. While I appreciated the social aspect of office chit chat I often couldn't help thinking I needed to be back at my desk working.

9. That One Guy (Or Gal). You know the one I'm talking about, the one that stinks up the break room with their microwavable lunch, the one that has horrendous breath, the one won't look at your eyes when he talks to you, but your chest, the one that has to compliment you every single day in a really creepy way. Ew.

10. Stress Level. Um... see above.

If I had to do it all over, I'd definitely find a way to work from home.

Oh, wait... turns out I do report to a three foot boss. And with that, I better get back to work.
This post was inspired by Stasha's Monday Listicles, a linky right up my alley!

Yes, Yes, Yes. I will never complain about my 3 foot boos or ask my Husband for a raise again. Because I don't want any of those back, every. You had me at panty hose!

You just made my day (at home with two sick kids) about 98% better.

All of the things I don't miss at all about work. But seriously, I think these little bosses sometimes expect way more out of us. At least they provide payment in hugs, kisses, and giggles to make it all worth it.

Love this list! #2, #4 and #5 particularly. I worked in marketing too and oh boy the stress.

I don't miss work either. Also? My boss now is waaaaay cuter.

I never had the corporate experience. Reading your list, I know I never want to!

The mini-bosses are supremely more tolerable, even on their worst days.

Hey, don't bash Twitter! ;)

Um, did you work where I work? Because that sounds remarkably like my job. Which is not, in any way, making me want to go back to work.

You just reminded me of how my working days were like. I'm also glad I don't have to do these anymore. I'm happy reporting to my 3 bosses at home now. Saying Hi from Monday Listicles.

Oy, the meetings! I don't miss those either. Re #3: and also "paradigm shift".

Oh, the pantyhose!! Could never go back to that. Nevah!

And the suits with shoulder pads...and some of my "blouses" had these hideous bows!!

Oh, you've opened the memory bank here, and none of it's good!

Omg, you just made me hate my job even more! All these would be on my list especially the politics.....big time! I would love to stay at home with my little guy.

Meetings about meetings should be illegal, and the penalty should be severe. There is no greater time suck in the entirety of world history. Just think what they do to the bottom line and to ROI! :)

All reasons why I don't miss working either. Then again, I have 3 teeny tiny bosses who really demand everything from me. But it's so much more fun!

SO MANY THOUGHTS, FEELINGS AND AGREEMENTS. Can you hear that sound? It's the sound of my head nodding so hard in agreement I think I shook my brain loose. I am here now, I love my job but corporate America is hell, let's face it. I'm going to focus on Meetings though...meetings about meetings....meetings to plan the meeting to talk about a meeting. Last week I worked 3 days due to the holiday....I had 2 hour meetings every 3 hours. head....DESK.
