Stay Blue

But my deepest and most secret love belongs to the fair-haired and the blue-eyed, the bright children of life, the happy, the charming and the ordinary. - Thomas Mann

All my life I have been complimented on my eye color.

Strangers have asked me more than once if my eyes were real. As opposed to what, I'm not sure. They must have thought I was wearing colored contacts.

My eyes are blue.

Sometimes they are unbelievably blue depending on the color of the sky, my disposition or what I am wearing.

I have only met two other people with eyes as blue as father and my son.

This is one of my favorite photos of me and my dad.

This is one of my favorite photos of Lucas.

I am so grateful that the three of us share this trait.

According to a Boston Globe article written in 2006, blue eyes have become increasingly rare among American children, with only one out of every six or 16.6%, which is 49.8 million out of 300 million (22.4% of white Americans) of the total United States population having blue eyes.

Of course, I realize that Lucas' eye color can still change at any time. My mother used to say that she was blond haired and blue-eyed until she was five and then magically, mysteriously she turned into a brown-eyed brunette.

Something tells that he's going to stay blue.

The best is yet to be.

I wrote this post for Mama Kat's Writer's Workshop - Prompt #3: The most unbelievable blue eyes you've ever seen.

Lucas' eyes will stay blue - I'm sure of it. It's uncanny how much his eyes look like your dad's...shape and all!

Tater's eyes are hazel, but the twins have blue, blue eyes. And I'm praying they'll stay that way!

My eyes are as brown can be. The hubby's are a dark blue. Our daughter had a 50/50 chance of going either way. I assumed I would have a brown eyed girl. Both of my boys have brown eyes. When she was born, her eyes were the bluest blue & I knew when i saw them they'd never change. She's almost 5 & they're still blue. The kicker- she didn't get her daddy's eyes. Her color is the same as MY dad's. Strange, huh?

I love his blue eyes! I too have blue eyes and both of my kids so far have gotten blue eyes, but I wouldn't describe them as the same color as mine. My son's a real deep blue and my daughter's are like a cobalt/steely blue.

I was interested to read that the number of blues is decreasing! I wonder why! Lovely to have found your blog!!

Such a striking color you all share...I can almost see why someone would ask if it was real - there are colored contacts that would almost be a match.

Beautiful eyes! I know what you mean about not wanting them to change too. It's the one thing that I wanted my kids to get from me, my PawPaw's eyes, and they did!

We don't have any blue eyes in our family. Everyone is brown. But what I find amazing his how different all of the browns are, especially among The Dudes. One so dark they are almost black, one a rich coffee brown, and one so light they are almost green.

That is great picture of you and your dad! My oldest's eyes are blue. I kept waiting for them to change but she's six now. My husbands whole family has blue eyes. Good Dutch stock.

I love that he shares your blue eyes and your dad's! My dad and brother have amazing blue eyes, and they skipped over to my kids. What is it about blue eyes that's so striking? Love them...

kate, like with everything else, was the exception to the rule with eye color. hers were blue until 18 months and then changed! i've always heard that they will change by 1 year, if they are going to change. but the difference between her and lucas is that we don't have blue eyes in our families, but lucas does. :)

You three do have beautiful eyes! Whenever someone tells me I have amazing blue eyes, I tell them that they should see my sister's and my nephews eyes.
Mom always said that she loved daddy's eyes and that she was so happy u and i got his pretty eyes and not her boring brown. Glad that Lucas joined the blue eyed clan too.
